A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android

Explore rogue planet Zaga-33, beware the hideous green aliens, find esoteric devices to help you, destroy the alien cortex to escape.

Originally made for the 7-day roguelike challenge 2012, then developed further and released on iOS. I didn't maintain compatibility with iOS version updates so it fell off the store. Now ported to Godot engine and released on Android, rereleased on iOS and PC. Also added a new mode (complete the game once and then click the moon to access).

Notes: To install on Android you need to enable "install unknown apps". To install on MacOS there's something similar as well. The Linux build hasn't been tested yet but Godot happily exports it so you're welcome to try.

Just nth-ing how glad I am to see the re-release! This is a fantastic game on any platform, but especially on mobile! The limited scope makes it really accessible, but it has all the depth of a roguelike!

is there a way to play using an  @ instead of the new sprite?

It was a delight to see this in the Google Play store! Does this mean there's a chance 868-HACK might come to Android, too...?

Congrats on re-releasing Zagaaaaaaa... :D Linux build confirmed working fine! Hey did you basically port all of your (C++?) code to GDScript? I was thinking of trying that for some things

yeah it was a small enough project that it felt reasonable to do that, i probably won’t for anything bigger.

Do you figure you'll use GDNative in that case, or just stick with updating your old codebase?

yeah just keep old things how they are i guess

Always good to be able to do that. It's mostly the iOS etc. API that keeps breaking heh. I am in the same boat currently. And I need a new Mac to support further updates. :/

Re - the terminal command to unlock the app on Mac:

I've had this problem as well. For me it's caused by Window's file system. It literally cannot set Unix file permissions. So the only workaround is to either build the app on a Mac. Or transfer the app to a Mac, unlock it, zip it, and then upload to itch without letting Windows wreck it.

Love that this now works on Linux too. One of my fave games, so happy to see it revived with Godot, and available on the app stores again. Nice work Michael.

I have played this roguelike diligently since it was released for that 7DRL, it was always one of my favorites and a trusted mini-game to replay when I have time to spare. I'm glad you finally released it for Android and of course I must support this jewel.

The only detail I miss it's play using an @ instead of the new sprite.

Zagaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...

Is there any changes in this version (except for the  new sprite) ?

yeah there’s some little animation and sound details, and a whole new mode

Ok thanks a lot for your answer :)

One of my favorite iOS games. Happy to see it available on other platforms.

Awww yes!

Love seeing this on Android! Loved playing it on PC but having it in my pocket is a dream. Thank you!
